It asks policymakers to create the option to slow frontier-wide progress if emerging risks warrant more time.
The case for an AI pacing mechanism
The statement begins from the possibility that leading AI companies could eventually automate more of the research used to build increasingly capable systems. How quickly that might happen, and how sharply it might accelerate development, remain uncertain. The campaign treats that uncertainty as a reason to prepare coordination mechanisms before they are urgently needed.
