Bombardier says its Global 8000 business jet has set its first speed record after flying from Montreal, Canada, to Nice, France, in just over six hours.
The company announced the flight on June 5 and described it as an early performance marker for the Global 8000, its ultra-long-range flagship aircraft. Bombardier said the aircraft was carrying passengers toward the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix, though the company-provided account remains the basis for that detail.
Bombardier is presenting the Global 8000 as a high-speed, long-range business jet with a stated top speed of Mach 0.95 and a stated range of 8,000 nautical miles. Those specifications, along with the Montreal-to-Nice timing, should be read as company-stated figures; Bombardier noted that some record claims are pending review by the World Air Sports Federation.
The flight still gives the aircraft a public benchmark on a transatlantic route that matters to the private aviation market: nonstop travel between North America and Europe, with enough speed to compress a long intercontinental trip into a shorter operating window.
