Amazon MGM Studios has reportedly acquired international pay-1 streaming rights to A24’s Elden Ring movie ahead of its planned appearance at the American Film Market in Los Angeles. The reported agreement covers a large number of international territories.
A24, Amazon and the producers declined to comment. The transaction, its value and the territories covered have not been independently verified.
The live-action adaptation is written and directed by Alex Garland, with Kit Connor among its cast. Bandai Namco Entertainment and A24 announced on April 20, 2026, that the film is scheduled for theatrical release on March 3, 2028, and is being made for IMAX.
International streaming rights ahead of AFM
The reported Amazon agreement concerns the film’s first subscription streaming window in the international territories covered. It would give Amazon a specific set of post-theatrical streaming rights, rather than a worldwide package covering every form of distribution.
International distributors in the affected territories would therefore be considering rights packages that exclude Amazon’s reported streaming window. Other distribution rights would remain available for negotiations at the market, although the precise territory-by-territory arrangements have not been confirmed.
Unnamed sources have speculated that the deal could be worth tens of millions of dollars. That estimate has not been independently verified, and no contract price has been confirmed.
The possibility of related promotional activity on Amazon’s Twitch platform has also been reported. No specific Twitch promotion or other activation has been confirmed.
The reported agreement does not establish when the film would become available to subscribers. The March 2028 date announced by A24 and Bandai Namco concerns the theatrical release.
Budget estimates and preparations for the market
Unnamed sources put the production budget between $175 million and $200 million, with the estimate closer to the upper end. Those figures have not been independently verified.
The American Film Market is scheduled for November 10–15, 2026, in Los Angeles. It is a marketplace where producers and distributors license film rights. Elden Ring is reportedly being prepared for a presentation there, potentially including footage, although the presentation’s contents have not been confirmed.
Access to Garland’s screenplay has reportedly been restricted ahead of the market. A24 staff members are said to be travelling to international buyers so that they can read the script with a representative present.
Unnamed sources also describe a screenplay running to at least 180 pages, including visuals. That reported page count does not establish a running time for the finished film.
Confirmed cast and reported production details
A24 and Bandai Namco’s announced cast includes Kit Connor, Ben Whishaw, Cailee Spaeny, Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonathan Pryce, Ruby Cruz and Nick Offerman. The full announcement also names John Hodgkinson, Jefferson Hall, Emma Laird and Peter Serafinowicz.
The companies’ cast announcement did not identify the characters the actors would play.
The producers are Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich from DNA, along with George R. R. Martin and Vince Gerardis. The collaboration between A24 and Bandai Namco was announced in May 2025.
Filming reportedly finished during summer 2026, with post-production work involving Industrial Light & Magic. The reported creative team includes costume designer Jenny Beavan, hair and makeup designer Paul Gooch, production designers Mark Digby and Michelle Day, and cinematographer David J. Thompson.
Those production-status and crew details have not been independently verified. The companies’ April announcement had placed the start of production in spring 2026.
The game behind the adaptation
Elden Ring is the dark fantasy action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware and published internationally by Bandai Namco. Released in 2022, it was created under the guidance of FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki, with mythological background written by George R. R. Martin.
The game takes players across the Lands Between, combining exploration of large environments and dungeons with battles against enemies and demigods. Its central quest involves restoring the shattered Elden Ring and becoming Elden Lord.
Bandai Namco said in its April 2026 film announcement that the game had surpassed 30 million copies sold worldwide.
