Tesla said on February 17, 2026, that its first Cybercab had come off the production line at Gigafactory Texas. The announcement preceded an April production start outlined by Elon Musk.
In a February 16 post, Musk wrote: “Cybercab, which has no pedals or steering wheel, starts production in April”.
Tesla shared a photograph showing employees gathered around the vehicle, and Musk congratulated the team on making the first production Cybercab. The company’s first-unit announcement did not specify production volumes or a date for public Cybercab rides.
A dedicated vehicle for autonomous ride-hailing
Unveiled in 2024, Cybercab is a two-seat vehicle designed for autonomous ride-hailing. Its planned design combines Tesla’s vision-based Full Self-Driving system with the absence of conventional driver controls.
Tesla has used Model Y vehicles in limited ride-hailing operations in Austin and the San Francisco Bay Area. Cybercab would introduce a dedicated vehicle for that business.
The competitive field includes Waymo, which has announced that it is welcoming public riders to its fully autonomous ride-hailing service in Miami.
Manufacturing plans and early output
Musk has linked Cybercab to Tesla’s proposed “Unboxed” manufacturing process, which would assemble large vehicle modules separately before integrating them. The proposed approach is intended to reduce costs and factory space while increasing output.
Musk has said early Cybercab production would be slow because almost all its parts and manufacturing steps are new. He has forecast substantially faster output later, without specifying a timetable or production volume in those comments.
