OpenAI chief Sam Altman says AI should remain broadly accessible to the public. He also says society should not accept catastrophic risks, including a serious loss of control over the technology.
Anthropic says its rules target frontier models
Anthropic says its proposed AI regulations apply only to frontier models, the most advanced AI systems. A company spokesperson emphasized that scope in response to Altman’s comments about AI rules.
That qualification matters when assessing the implications for public access. Rules aimed specifically at frontier models have a narrower scope than restrictions covering AI as a whole. Anthropic’s response identifies which systems it wants regulated; it should not be read as a blanket objection to public use of AI.
