ASUS lists an overclocked maximum refresh rate of 210Hz for its 27-inch TUF Gaming VG27AQL5A monitor, with that mode limited to DisplayPort. The company describes the display as a 2560 × 1440 Fast IPS model and specifies a lower ceiling of 144Hz when connected through HDMI.
The distinction limits which connections can use the monitor’s highest advertised refresh rate. Making full use of a high-refresh-rate display also requires the game and graphics hardware to produce a sufficiently high frame rate; the monitor’s maximum refresh specification does not establish the frame rate a game will deliver.
ASUS’s DisplayPort and HDMI specifications
ASUS gives the monitor a vertical frequency range of 48–210Hz over DisplayPort and 48–144Hz over HDMI. Its specifications list one DisplayPort 1.4 input, two HDMI 2.0 inputs and a headphone output. The stated upper limit therefore differs between the two video connection types, despite their shared 48Hz lower limit.
The company identifies the USB-C connector as a service port. That designation should not be interpreted as advertised support for a laptop display-and-charging connection. The USB-C connector has a separate stated role from the DisplayPort and HDMI video inputs.
Response-time and motion features
ASUS advertises a 1ms grey-to-grey response time, with a minimum of 0.3ms. These are manufacturer response-time claims. The minimum should not be read as an input-lag measurement or as a guarantee that every pixel transition completes in 0.3ms. It is a qualified minimum within ASUS’s advertised specification.
For variable refresh rates, ASUS lists FreeSync Premium support. The company also says its ELMB Sync feature allows motion-blur reduction and variable refresh rate to operate together. Those functions target different aspects of motion: uneven frame delivery and the clarity of objects moving across the screen.
The simultaneous-operation claim is specific to ELMB Sync. It describes ASUS’s advertised feature support, rather than establishing a measured level of motion clarity or responsiveness in a particular game.
Stand adjustment, speakers and image specifications
ASUS lists 130mm of height adjustment for the supplied stand, alongside swivel, tilt and rotation into portrait orientation. The company’s specifications also include a 100 × 100mm VESA mounting pattern as an alternative to the supplied base, plus two built-in speakers rated at 2W each.
For colour and HDR, ASUS advertises 95% DCI-P3 coverage and DisplayHDR 400 certification. These should be understood as the company’s stated colour-gamut and HDR specifications. They should not be treated as measurements of how accurately an individual unit is calibrated, or as a substitute for measured picture-quality testing.
