Apple outlines App Store submissions for iPhone Duo apps

Apple says developers can submit iPhone Duo apps and games through App Store Connect using Xcode 27.1, ahead of the phone’s planned October launch.

The preparation extends beyond the app itself. Apple is also asking developers to prepare product page assets for the device, with an April 2027 screenshot requirement on its stated schedule.

Xcode 27.1 is the starting point

Apple lists the Xcode 27.1 release candidate with an October 5, 2026 release date. The company says recompiling an existing app with that version adds development support for iPhone Duo.

Apple also directs developers to Device Hub to visualize how their apps behave across the device’s poses and orientations. Its preparation guidance covers both building the app and checking its behavior in those different configurations.

App Store screenshots get a deadline

Apple’s stated plan calls for iPhone Duo screenshots with app and game submissions beginning in April 2027. That places the asset requirement several months after the planned hardware launch.

For developers preparing their App Store product pages, Apple points to the following resources:

  • Design guidance and downloadable templates.
  • App preview specifications.
  • Screenshot specifications.

These cover the storefront side of preparing an app for the device: showing people what the experience looks like before they download it.

Apple’s planned launch dates

Apple has scheduled iPhone Duo preorders for Friday, October 16, 2026, with initial availability planned for October 23.
