Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another is headed to streaming.
Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed Monday that the Leonardo DiCaprio-led film will debut exclusively on HBO Max on Friday, December 19, with its HBO linear premiere landing the following day. HBO Max will also offer an ASL version.
What the movie is about
A genre-blending mix of crime thriller, political action, dark comedy, and paranoia, One Battle After Another follows Bob (DiCaprio), a washed-up revolutionary living off-grid in a haze of stoned dread alongside his fiercely independent daughter Willa (Chase Infiniti).
When Bob’s longtime nemesis (Sean Penn) reappears after 16 years and Willa vanishes, Bob is forced out of hiding and into a frantic search—one that drags his past back to the surface with consequences he can’t outrun. Benicio Del Toro, Regina Hall, and Teyana Taylor also star.
Box office momentum and awards heat
The film opened in theaters on September 26 and has now cleared $200 million worldwide. It’s also been a major force on the awards circuit, taking Best Film honors from the New York Film Critics Circle, Los Angeles Film Critics Association, and the National Board of Review, and winning Best Feature at the Gotham Awards.
The title is also up for 14 Critics Choice Awards and leads all films with nine Golden Globe nominations, cementing its status as one of the season’s biggest contenders.
