TP-Link’s LiteWave LS1005G, a five-port unmanaged gigabit Ethernet switch, was reported on sale at Amazon for $8.97. The model is designed to expand wired network connections.
A typical installation uses one port to connect the switch to a router, leaving four for devices such as computers, game consoles, televisions and printers.
Ports and design
TP-Link lists five auto-negotiating RJ45 Ethernet ports supporting 10, 100 or 1,000Mbps. The company describes the LS1005G as a plug-and-play switch that requires no configuration.
TP-Link also lists a fanless design for quiet operation and a plastic casing suitable for desktop placement or wall mounting. The reported dimensions are 2.8 × 3.5 × 0.9 inches.
The company identifies computers, printers, webcams and IPTV equipment among compatible devices. It lists homes, small businesses, school dormitories and surveillance networks among the switch’s intended uses.
