Reddit Stock Slides as Meta Tests Forum App

Reddit shares fell almost 6% on Friday after Meta began testing Forum, a standalone iOS app built around Facebook Groups and online discussion.

The move matters because Forum points at one of Reddit’s most valuable use cases: people looking for community answers, niche conversations and quick public feedback. Truist analysts described the app as a potential new competitive threat, though they still maintained a buy recommendation on Reddit stock.

What Investors Are Weighing

Forum is not a full-scale proven Reddit replacement. It is a test app, and Meta has tried a separate Groups app before, only to shut it down in 2017. Still, the market reaction shows how sensitive Reddit’s valuation remains to competition from larger social platforms.

Reddit’s business momentum has not disappeared. In April, the company reported its seventh straight quarter of sales growth above 60%, helped by a stronger advertising business. Meta also remains in growth mode, with revenue up 33% in its latest quarter.

Verdict: A Real Risk, But Not a Proven Reddit Killer

For investors considering Reddit, Forum is worth watching because it targets less loyal, non-core users who may simply want answers rather than a Reddit-specific community experience. That is the buyer-aware risk in the stock: Reddit’s most habitual users may stay, while lighter users could be easier for Meta to pull away.

At this stage, though, Forum is still a test. The sharper question is whether Meta can turn Facebook Groups into a cleaner public-discussion product that people choose outside the main Facebook app.
