GEEKOM’s A9 Max 2026 Edition combines AMD’s Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 processor and Radeon 890M integrated graphics in a very small desktop. GEEKOM lists selected configurations with 32GB of DDR5 memory, a 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSD and Windows 11 Pro.
The reviewer disclosed that GEEKOM supplied the unit. The main concerns described for that sample were its single-module memory configuration and the process required to reach the memory and storage slots.
Memory configuration and upgrade access
The reviewer described the sample as containing one 32GB DDR5 SODIMM rather than two 16GB modules and identified the arrangement as a possible constraint on integrated-graphics performance. The reviewer also relayed GEEKOM’s explanation that using one module would let owners expand the memory without replacing two existing modules.
GEEKOM lists two SO-DIMM slots and two M.2 storage slots. Those expansion provisions are separate from the question of how the supplied memory was distributed between the slots.
The reviewer described reaching the components by removing glued-on rubber feet, four screws, the bottom cover and an internal metal plate. In that account, the Wi-Fi antenna was taped to the plate, and its cables were accidentally disconnected while the case was being opened. The reviewer reported spending around an hour reconnecting them.
Processor and connections
AMD specifies its Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 with 12 cores and 24 threads, comprising four Zen 5 cores and eight Zen 5c cores. Its listed base clock is 2.0GHz, with a maximum boost clock of up to 5.2GHz.
AMD rates the processor’s neural processing unit at up to 55 trillion operations per second, or TOPS, and its overall AI processing capability at up to 86 TOPS. The NPU rating forms part of the overall figure. These are AMD’s hardware ratings rather than measured application results for the A9 Max.
GEEKOM lists two 40Gbps USB4 ports, two HDMI 2.1 outputs, dual 2.5GbE Ethernet ports, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4 and an SD Card 4.0 reader. The company says the display connections support up to four 4K displays.
The described port layout places both USB4 Type-C connections on the rear, alongside the HDMI outputs, Ethernet connections, one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port, one USB 2.0 Type-A port and the power connector. Four USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports and a 3.5mm headset jack are on the front. There is no front USB-C connection.
Reported performance and cooling
The reviewer described mixed CPU comparisons: the HX 470 configuration finished ahead of a Core Ultra 9 285H system in Cinebench 2024 multi-core testing but behind a previously tested HX 370-powered A9 Max. The reviewer also described higher NPU results than both comparison systems in the tests used.
The reviewer associated weaker graphics results with the single-module memory arrangement. That was an interpretation of the sample’s results, rather than a quantified comparison showing the effect of adding a second module.
For cooling, the reviewer described unobtrusive fan noise and a chassis that remained cool to the touch during benchmark testing.
