Unverified accounts attributed to iPhone Duo owners describe inner displays cracking around the hinge, including an Australian owner’s claim that a screen failed after roughly six hours of use and fewer than 20 openings.
The allegations do not establish the cause of the reported damage, the number of affected devices or whether there is a broader hardware defect. The ownership accounts and descriptions of the failures have not been independently verified.
Australian owner describes a crack along the fold
A Reddit post attributed to an owner in Australia describes feeling something beneath the inner display near the hinge while opening the phone. The owner said an audible crack followed and the screen split along the fold.
The owner also said there were no visible marks on the inner display or external hinge suggesting a drop or an object trapped inside the device. Those observations remain part of the owner’s unverified account and do not establish what caused the alleged failure.
According to the owner, Apple initially offered an express replacement before an Apple Store immediately exchanged the phone for a new iPhone Duo. That description of the replacement process has not been independently confirmed.
Related complaints leave the extent of any problem unclear
Other unverified owner accounts describe damage concentrated around the center fold, including cracks and bright lines across parts of the inner display. The apparent similarities have not been independently confirmed, and the accounts do not establish that the reported failures share a common cause.
The location of the alleged damage alone does not demonstrate that the hinge caused it. A manufacturing, assembly or component fault has not been established, and the claims do not support identifying a particular defective part.
The available allegations are insufficient to determine whether the described failures are isolated incidents or part of a recurring problem. The Australian owner’s reported replacement also does not, by itself, establish an acknowledgment by Apple of a wider defect.
