The Mega Evolution update for Pokemon Go is now live, and the game is celebrating with a limited-time event. This weekend’s event brings Mega Kangaskhan to the game and a bevy of new research missions to accomplish. Everything you need to know about the event is included here.

Timetable for the event

The Mega Evolution event in Pokemon Go starts on April 29 at 10 a.m. local time and ends on May 1 at 8 p.m. local time.

Pokemon in the spotlight

A new Mega Evolution, Mega Kangaskhan, will be unveiled at this weekend’s event. On May 1, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time, Mega-Evolved Pokemon will emerge more frequently in Mega Raids.

Furthermore, Pokemon whose evolved versions may Mega Evolve will emerge more frequently, possibly being shiny. During the event, you’ll come across the following Pokemon in the wild:

  • Bulbasaur
  • Charmander
  • Squirtle
  • Slowpoke
  • Gastly
  • Mareep
  • Buneary
  • Snover

Tasks for research

The game also includes a new Special Research tale centered on Mega Evolution and the highlighted Pokemon spawns. Completing the Special Research will give you enough Mega Energy to Mega Evolve Venusaur, Charizard, or Blastoise, depending on which of the three alternatives you pick.

There will also be new, themed Field Research projects during the event. Mega Energy for a random Pokemon that can Mega Evolve is one of the prizes you’ll get for accomplishing these objectives. As a last bonus, all Mega-Evolved Pokemon will receive a CP increase throughout the event.

That’s not all that’s going on in Pokemon Go right now. Therian Forme Landorus will be available in five-star raids until May 3, and May’s Community Day will be held on May 21.
