Prime Video will release German anti-war thriller Der Tiger worldwide on January 2, 2026, following its theatrical run in Germany. Deadline reported that the film, titled The Tank in English, will reach all 240 territories where the streaming service is available.
Amazon identifies Der Tiger as its first German Original film to receive a local theatrical release before streaming. The film opened in select CineStar cinemas in Germany on September 18, 2025.
Amazon and producer Pantaleon Films list January 2 as the streaming date. An earlier Amazon announcement outlining its German programming lineup had listed the film for an autumn 2025 Prime Video release.
Directed by Dennis Gansel, Der Tiger is set on the Eastern Front in 1943. According to Pantaleon Films’ synopsis, a five-man German Tiger tank crew is sent on a secret mission behind the contested front line. The soldiers confront their fears as they travel deeper into enemy territory, while under the influence of Wehrmacht methamphetamine.
David Schütter, Laurence Rupp, Leonard Kunz, Sebastian Urzendowsky and Yoran Leicher star, with Tilman Strauß and André M. Hennicke in supporting roles.
Pantaleon Films produced the feature in association with Amazon MGM Studios Germany. Frank Kusche and Dan Maag are the producers, and Gansel wrote the screenplay with Colin Teevan.
Carlo Jelavic served as director of photography, Nick Palmer handled production design, Anke Winckler oversaw costume design, and Meg Tanner handled hair and make-up design.
